In Memoriam

Michael “Doc” Thompson

On February 5, 2019 the world experienced a huge loss when Michael “Doc” Thompson, known by most as simply “Doc”, was hit and killed by an Amtrak train near his Mojo 5-0 Radio studios in Fort Worth, Texas.  Doc was a loving husband, father, faithful friend and generous soul. Many people around this country will dearly miss his warm and gentle heart, his laughter and his ability to make everyone he interacts with feel important.

Doc’s Eulogy

Michael Dean Thompson, age 49, of Bentonville, Arkansas, passed away on February 5, 2019. He was born in Painesville, Ohio, on May 6, 1969, to Basil and Nora Thompson (nee Laird).

Mike – or “Doc” as he was known to the masses who listened to his daily radio show – was a great many things.

As husband to Yuna and father to three young men – Tiger, Cubby and Wythe – Mike lived every second of every day thinking first of his wife and children. He was, first and foremost, a family man.

Doc was the rarest of humans – someone capable of seeing the often-hidden, positive or humorous side of life while staring at life’s darkest moments. That unique skill was just one of his gifts.

Doc loved radio and radio loved him right back. In a brutally competitive business like radio, Doc Thompson was not just respected, we was loved – loved by those he worked alongside and those with whom he competed. Doc Thompson was the ultimate team player. He knew that by helping those around him to be better, everyone would benefit.

As an entrepreneur, Doc as relentless, always looking for the next opportunity – and typically, not for himself.
